Sheltered service gets inspection rave review

The sheltered housing warden service provided by East Ren Council has been given the4 equivalent of a rave review by inspectors.

They looked at the quality of care and support, staffing, management and leadership during their tours.

They reported: “The service is very good overall at involving tenants in assessing and improving the service.

“The effectiveness of the service in enabling tenants to make individual choices and ensure they are supported to achieve their potential.”

During the inspection tenants comments included: “The care I get is good and I just could not ask for better.” and “Excellent care and compassion without being intrusive. I feel very safe here.”

Another said: “I am very happy in this sheltered housing accommodation and know that it’s the best position to be in.”

The service was also given an excellent rating for providing support and training opportunities for staff and also for promoting leadership within staff.

Housing and maintenance service convener Councillor Danny Devlin said: “Very many congratulations to all the staff on an outstanding report.”

The council says its warden service works to improve the quality of life for all residents regardless of their need.

A main objective is to allow people to live independently – and also to ensure they’re able to become actively engaged in the wider community.

The authority operates flats that would suit singles or couples in Barrhead, Neilston, Newton Mearns, Giffnock, Busby, Netherlee and (Montgomerie Court, pictured), Eaglesham. There are also a number of open plan studio flats which are said to be ideal for single people.

Each complex has controlled entry, a warden service, on call security, communal gardens and heating.
