Shoestring duo snap up film of the year award
Giffnock film company Shoestring Pictures is celebrating after scooping East Renfrewshire Film Club’s film of the year prize.
Bill Welsh and Alistair Biggar made The Extra last year after premiering their fourth short film, Troubadors — based on the Bizet opera The Pearl Fishers.
The short — shot at Eastwood Park Theatre and starring Syrian-born actress Raghad Chaar, from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland — was awarded the Iain McPhee trophy.
Bill and Alistair are now planning their next cinematic venture, this time with a distinctly Scottish theme.
