Singer Brittany ends the year on a high note

Eaglesham singer Brittany Davies ends 2015 on a high note, as a finalist in this year’s UK Songwriting Contest.

Along with twin sister Rachelle, Brittany has been a regular in The Extra this year after releasing a charity single, Shout Out, in memory of a friend.

The Mearns Castle girls have a big name fan in Rod Stewart, who retweeted their song back in May — and now, lyricist Brittany can add the Songwriting Contest to her list of achievements.

The song Shout Out made the list of finalists in the music video category, and Brittany herself made semi-finalist (just missing out on those top spots) in the under 18s category.

On writing the song for friend Heather, Brittany told The Extra: “I was in my room one day not long after when the lyrics and melody kept going through my head over and over again.

“I showed it to Rachelle, then we started working on it together as a duo, adding harmonies and letting it evolve.

“We approached Heather’s family, who gave it their blessing and chose YoungMinds to benefit from it.”

The music video, made by students from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, is available on YouTube, and as a downloadable track.
