Smallholders show skills and crafts at Lanark Market

The Scottish Smallholder and Grower Festival takes place at Lanark Agricultural Centre today (Saturday).

The festival is Scotland’s largest smallholder event, celebrating the best of Scottish smallholding, growing and craft.

Organised by smallholders and growers, it is aimed at all those with an interest in the productive use of small land holdings.

Today’s festival includes displays of rare and traditional breeds of livestock,and shows of alpaca, goat, pig and sheep.

There are also shows of poultry, and of donkeys, native ponies, and light and heavy horses.

Enthusiasts can enjoy demonstrations and seminars on various aspects of running smallholderings, and there are garden, craft and food displays.

The festival includes a craft fair, trade stands and even apple pressing, and visitors can try their hand at basket weaving, or learn learn how to prune fruit trees.
