The foodbank — which supplies three days worth of emergency food for southsiders in need — runs from Govanhill Elim Church, with another branch at Netherauldhouse Evangelical Church.

Representative Anne Hind told The Extra: “Foodbanks were the charity on everyone’s lips for a while, and we got more food from that — but, like all these things, it has moved on to some other cause.

“We now need to be more proactive in approaching organisations to donate. Food goes out all the time and it’s about trying to keep it coming in — that doesn’t always happen.”

The group has organised a major collection at Muirend branch of Sainsburys, Clarkston Road.

Anne added: “We are also looking for three small, bistro-type tables to enable us to provide hot drinks to our clients.

“These are people who are struggling — they have bills to pay, and families to look after. We had someone walk from Paisley because they didn’t have the bus fare.

“The need for a foodbank certainly hasn’t gone away.”

To donate, head to the collection on Saturday, October 4, from 9am-5pm.
