South side is named as antiques hotspot

In recent weeks McTear’s Auctioneers has taken consignment of a host of unusual items, including rare silver plates, Asian antiquities and impressive paintings, from sellers in Clarkston, Giffnock, Busby and Newton Mearns.

Intrigued by the flurry of unusual antiques, the auction house has now organised a valuation day on Sunday, March 5, at Parklands Country Club in Newton Mearns to see if they can uncover some more hidden treasures.

The event, which will run from noon to 5pm, will see Natasha Raskin, star of BBC’s Bargain Hunt, join McTear’s auctioneers, Brian Clements and Magda Ketterer, to cast their expert eyes over interesting items brought in by the public.

Commenting on valuation day, Brian Clements, managing director at McTear’s, said: “The south side of Glasgow has proved to be a real hot bed of rare and unusual antiques in recent weeks, so we thought we would head out on the road to find out more.

“You just never know what is lying at the back of that cupboard or in that box in the loft. Very often potential sellers have no idea how valuable a piece is until they bring it along to the auction house or to one of our valuation days and allow one of our experts to have a look.

“We are pretty sure there are some more hidden treasures waiting to be discovered and we look forward to seeing what we can uncover.”
