Following a successful festival in May, the team are back at the Glad Cafe in a bid to keep film fans coming to Shawlands.

The season kicked off on Tuesday with a showing of cult 80s comedy Heathers — but there’s plenty more to come.

October’s offering is a creepshow affair, with Let the Right One In.

On November 5, the mood lifts and the sequins are on for Behind the Candelabra — a take on performer Liberace (played by Michael Douglas), based on the memoirs of his lover, Scott Thorson (Matt Damon).

And we’re back with black humour on December 3, for Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges, followed by a family showing of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists on December 15 (at the earlier time of 4pm).

Southside Film Festival director Karen O’Hare commented: “We’re really pleased to be back in this wonderful venue from September for even more film screenings.

“We offer an opportunity for people to see different films in a different, more intimate environment — providing a quality cinematic experience in the southside.”
