Southside pupils united against gender violence

The event took place at the Burrell Collection, organised by the South Sector Violence Against Women Implementation Group (VAWIG) in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Glasgow Life, Glasgow city council, Police Scotland and The Domestic Abuse Project.

150 students from eight schools — Bellahouston, Rosshall and Shawlands academies, Cartvale, Hillpark, Holyrood, Lourdes secondaries and St Paul’s high — attended after taking part in a five-week-long workshop run by theatre company ConFab, where they learned to use drama, film, creative writing, hip hop and visual art to explore ideas of unhealthy relationships.

Bailie Fariha Thomas, chair of Community Safety Glasgow, said: “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to share in today’s presentations by the pupils, and I was very impressed by their maturity and understanding around the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships.”

The southside pupils were asked to give feedback on the programme, and it will be used to roll the project out to the wider Glasgow area.
