Southside turns pink for Pretty Muddy

Cancer Research UK fundraisers were pretty in pink at Bellahouston Park this weekend — but the ladies weren’t staying pristine for long.

The southside park hosted Pretty Muddy, a 5k fun run and obstacle course open to women and girls over 13 in a bid to beat cancer.

East Renfrewshire ladies the Pretty Pink Dollies — Rhona Dickson, Fiona Davidson, Christine Hendry, Deborah Johnston, Lucille Oakley, Morven Miller, Fiona Smith, Marion Larmour, Suzanne Lavelle and Lisa Mair — tackled the course on Saturday.

It’s a cause close to their hearts, with Christine losing her dad to cancer seven years ago and Rhona now in remission for breast cancer.

Rhona told The Extra: “The group has raised in excess of £600 for Cancer Research, and had the best fun doing it.

“The atmosphere was amazing; everyone was on great form and having fun — and most importantly, it was for a fantastic cause.”

The Pink Avocados (named by team leader Gillian Smith’s five-year-old son) were also out in force.

Gillian was joined by Lindsay and Nicole Vassie, Alison Gardner, Laura McQueenie, Elaine Barral and Mairi Gallagher for a bracing mud bath.

She commented: “It was the second anniversary of losing my Gran to pancreatic cancer. Some of the team have had their own experiences with cancer and felt compelled to take part, and we all know someone affected by cancer.

“A fun day was had by all, raising money for a good cause.”

The Sunday leg was taken up by sisters Amanda and Stephanie Cowell and Claire Smith, taking part as Pretty Lil Muckers.

The trio smashed their £100 target, and are still collecting at www.justgiving.com/filthy-lil-muckers.
