Southside war memorial in full bloom again

A memorial dedicated to a southsider killed in the Second World War has been restored following an attack of vandalism.

The James Stokes memorial in New Gorbals Rose Garden — orginally commissioned by the council after a local school competition — was brought to the attention of southside central councillor Soryia Siddique (pictured) in 2012, when it was severely damaged by
vandals.

Following a grant of £4,000 from the War Memorial Trust and £3,000 from the Southside Central Area Partnership, the repair was completed this month.
