Southsiders set to be kings of the stage

Holly Killin, Robert Prentice and Ewan Walker — who all live in Newton Mearns — will be performing in PMOS’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I at the King’s Theatre next month.

Eastwood High school pupil Ewan, who is playing the principal role of Prince Chulalongkorn, has appeared in school shows and featured in a number of performances at EastwoodPark 
Theatre.

However, this will be his first appearance on stage at the King’s.

The 13-year-old told The Extra: “I am so excited to be part of The King and I as this is my favourite musical.

“I am looking forward to embracing the role of the Prince. I just can’t wait!”

Hutchesons’ Grammar pupil Robbie is also playing a principal role, that of Anna’s son Louis.

The 11-year-old starred in a number of school shows prior to his successful audition.

He added: “I had no idea how much work went into putting on a big production like this.

“I can’t wait for my family and friends to see me on stage at the King’s Theatre”.

Director Alasdair Hawthorn was blown away by local pair after meeting them.

He told The Extra: “I was impressed by Ewan and Robbie’s talent and confidence at their auditions.

“They were obviously going to play principal roles, I just had to decide which role would suit them best.

“The boys have continued to impress me in rehearsals as they have taken on these challenging roles with gusto.”

Holly (10) is a Mearns Primary school pupil who will play one of the royal princesses.

The show is full of recognisable songs such as Getting to Know You, Whistle a Happy Tune and Shall We Dance.

The King and I shows at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow city centre March 4-8.
