Spend a night at the museum

The Auld Kirk Museum, in Kirkintilloch, is getting ready to take part in the annual festivities with a ‘Past Times Weekend’ from May 15-17.

There will be a while weekend of family fun, where visitors can dress up and participate in music and dance demonstrations and even meet a Knight.

It will include storytelling, face painting, basket weaving, birds of prey displays and much more.

During a ‘Haunted Night at the Museum’, on Friday, May 15, from 5-8pm, there will be a chance to have an afterhours experience of the museum.

Watch out for restless ghouls floating around the museum and in the graveyard (if you dare) while a resident ghostly apparition will have you shaking in your shoes with tales of the roaming spirits of Kirkintilloch.

Take on the ghosts at their own game by having your face painted in all its ghastly glory and remember to duck to avoid the owls and birds of prey that will be roaming the night in our interactive bird display.

Then ‘Medieval Mayhem Day’ will be taking over on Saturday, May 16, from 11am–4pm

Come along for a chance to dress up in medieval costume and join in with lively music and dance demonstrations for an authentic taste of period life.

Interact with Medieval characters throughout the day and learn more about ancient skills such as basket-weaving. And if you are in the jousting spirit, you can even try your hand at wielding some medieval weaponry.

Things finish off with a ‘Family Fun Day’ on Sunday, May 17, from 12noon–4pm.

There will be plenty to do in the drop-in arts and crafts centre, whether you are a knight or a knave, from making and decorating swords, helmets and shields to creating your own perfect crown.

There’ll also be face painting, medieval weaponry and a fantastic display of birds of prey bringing a little ornithological magic to this day of wonder and mayhem.
