‘Splash’-ing out for church roof

A keen amateur swimmer hopes to make a splash and raise some cash for the repair of a church roof.

Elaine Clarke will swim the 1.3 miles from the Holy Isle to Lamlash Pier in the Lamlash Splash this Saturday, September 19, to raise funds for the renovation of the roof of Giffnock South Parish Church.

She said: “The Church is a hub of activity in the community throughout the whole year and is home to mother, toddler and youth groups, health and exercise clubs, music, charities, choirs, art club and, of course, for worship.

“It is a beautiful building and, with the halls, there is so much more that is planned to support the community with improvements costing more than £500,000.

“So, please sponsor me to swim the Lamlash Splash through the cold, dangerous jellyfish-infested waters.”

This is not the first time that Elaine has swum the Lamlash Splash, having braved the waters nine years ago.

“It wasn’t easy then,” she said, “and, nine years on, I still don’t know what to expect but it’s all for a good cause and helps keep me in shape.”
