Sporting chance for young skiers

The director of A For Audi in Clydebank has splashed out £40,000 to sponsor a 16-seat mini-bus to ferry youngsters from across Glasgow to the Bearsden Ski School so they can practise their winter sports in style.

Andy is keen to encourage as many youngsters as possible to try the sport and is willing to help where he can.

However, he was surprised to discover that although many schools have the budget to provide pupils with skiing lessons they don’t have funds to pay for transport to and from the Bearsden slopes.

Andy said: “You never know, we might just find a future Scottish champion who will do for skiing what Andy Murray has done for tennis. The first thing we have to do is give kids the chance to try out the sport.

“I’m really happy to be able to put something back into the community. You can see by the looks on their faces that the kids really enjoy the experience”.

Gordon Crawford, past president of the Bearsden Ski School, said he was delighted that youngsters who might want to try skiing or snow-boarding can now get a chance.

He said: “We have an amazing facility here and thanks to Andy we will now be able to introduce skiing to hundreds of children that would otherwise not have that option.”
