St Bride’s Centre, Douglas, celebrates first birthday

DOZENS of Douglas residents celebrated the first birthday celebrations at the refurbished St Bride’s Centre in style.

The centre, which was originally built as a school back in the 1870s, was given a much-needed facelift costing hundreds of thousands and opened its (brand new) doors to the public in April last year.

To celebrate the milestone, the centre held a craft fayre and children’s fun day which organisers hailed as a great success.

Centre co-ordinator Karen Gillon said: “We had a range of crafters from Clydesdale and beyond and there was a really steady attendance throughout the day.

“We also had children’s entertainment and a range of therapies such as head and body massage.”

Karen also reflected on the past 12 months which have witnessed the centre once again become the hub of community life in Douglas.

She added: “It has been a fantastic first year for us.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from the groups who use the centre.

“We now have a wide range of activities happening in the village.”
