St Margaret’s of Scotland pupils have eye opening lesson

Antonia McNeill, store director of Specsavers Cumbernauld, visited local school St Margaret’s Primary while children attended their P1 induction day along with their parents and soon-to-be school teachers.

Stressing the importance of sight testing, Antonia talked to the pre-school children about how the eyes work, the importance of getting your eyes checked, and why some people need glasses.

The Specsavers opticians also donated goody bags to the local school, which contained leaflets, fact sheets, pens and Specsavers boxes to hold their alphabet letters.

Antonia said: “It was fantastic to meet all the children, especially as it’s so important to learn about eyes from a young age and how to look after them properly.

“Catching sight problems at pre-school age is extremely important as often the sight issues can be corrected if addressed early enough.”

Marie Love, headteacher of St Margaret’s Primary School, added: “It’s great to receive support from local experts about such an important subject.

“The children, along with the teachers and parents, found the talk about eyes and how we can keep them healthy very interesting.”
