Staff conduct probe at Kilsyth clinic

Kilsyth Medical Practise been forced to confirm that it has fallen under the scrutiny of the NHS Counter Fraud Services.

This follows an accusation of malpractice that came to light at the Community Health Centre last month.

The issue has been the subject of widespread speculation in the town but now some key facts have emerged about the issue which has arisen just five months after the clinic opened its doors.

We can confirm that the investigation centres around two members of staff amidst claims that there was a discrepancy with the issuing of prescriptions.

One of the staff members is no longer working at the practise.

However, neither NHS Lanarkshire or the practise itself would say whether the individual in question had been dismissed.

The other individual is currently under suspension.

Although no further light was shed on the identity of the pair, we can can confirm that the investigation does not involve any doctors.

The practise has told this newspaper that no arrests have been made.

Dr Murray Hardie said: “Since this matter came to our attention, the practise is co-operating fully with NHS Scotland Counter Fraud Services.

“We would like to reassure all our patients that we take any allegations of misconduct very seriously.

“And should one arise, it is fully investigated and dealt with in accordance with our policies and procedures and if required, referred to a professional body or other agency for further investigation.’’

NHS Counter Fraud Services spokesman Stephen Freer said: “We do not discuss individual cases that are under investigation.’’
