Stephen Pillans is 2013 Lord Cornet

THOSE selecting the 2013 Lanark Lord Cornet have taken a lead from the Olympic-dominated New Years Honours List by choosing a well-known sporting personality.

They have made what is sure to be a highly popular choice by naming Stephen Pillans of Lanark United fame Lord Cornet Elect.

The honour is recognition for almost twenty years’ service as a player, coach and manager, not only with the Royal Burgh club but also in various roles with Carluke Rovers and Forth Wanderers.

He already has a bit of an insight to Lanimer tradition, his wife Jane being a former Lanimer Queen. They married in 1990 and have a daughter, Alana, attending Lanark Grammar School.

Away from sport and family, Stephen, of Woodlands Avenue, is a site engineer with Babcock’s Rail Division and has worked in railway telecoms for 25 years.

Despite widespread rumours, he is NOT a Carluke man by birth, although he lived there for several years; Stephen originally hails from Blantyre, where he was educated, coming to Lanark when he married local lass Jane (Brown).
