But it is not a late party for the Queen’s birthday - it is for the town’s very own 90-year-old treasure.

Opened on April 29 1926, Lanark War Memorial Hall is a Grade B listed building constructed in memory of the 232 men belonging to Lanark and District who lost their lives in World War One.

Britain’s Got Talent star Edward Reid will compère a special celebration organised for the hall’s 90th anniversary, and that will also be an opportunity to raise funds for the Poppyscotland Appeal reflecting the origins of the

building as a memorial.

Local groups and organisations who have performed in the venue over the years will provide an evening of entertainment, music, dance and song.

Joining the celebrations are the finest in local instrumental talents in the form of Lanark and District Pipe Band and Coalburn Silver Band, along with the vocal talents of The Choir of St Marys.

Over the years there has been a strong traditional of local groups staging their annual musical theatre productions and pantomimes in the Memorial Hall so it’s only fitting that Lanark Panto Club (Juniors and Seniors), Lanark Amateur Musical Society and ICE Lanark feature prominently on the bill.
