Stirling Council launches Off The Stanza writing competition

This year it will be themed ‘Conflicting Voices’, linking in with the World War One centenary commemoration.

Stirling Council hopes to attract entries from all over Britain and beyond.

The competition will be judged by Stirling Makar Anita Govan and shortlisted poets will be invited to showcase their work during the Off the Page Stirling Book Festival.

Entries will be accepted in English or Scots and must be submitted by Friday, July 31.

A shortlist will be announced by mid-August, inviting finalists to attend an Open Mic Evening of Poetry.

The event will be hosted by Anita Govan, who will introduce the poets and their readings ahead of the official prize-giving ceremony.

Mrs Goven said: “The festival is all about supporting reading and writing so it is a good opportunity to encourage poets across the country to enter this year’s competition and showcase their talent.”

First prize is a £150.00 book token, second prize is a £50.00 book token with third prizewinner receiving £30.00 book token donated by Waterstones, one of Off the Page Stirling Book Festival sponsors.

Entry forms and competition guidelines are available from any Stirling Council library or on the Stirling Council website.
