Pundits leap to defence of Rangers star as he's to keep knocking on doors to fulfil 'top player' potential

Summer signing is yet to register a goal or an assist

Pundits Alan Hutton and Michael Stewart agree that Rangers winger Kim Min-su has the potential to become a ‘top player’ at Ibrox despite recent struggles.

The 20-year old is yet to trouble the scoresheet for the Light Blues in 11 appearances since his £8.5m transfer from Girona in the summer. However, within that period he’s hit the woodwork three times and has registered 10 shots on target.

The Korean has been a mainstay in the squad under manager Derek McInnes and has been praised for his natural enthusiasm with the ball at his feet and direct running in the final third. While his form has dipped in recent weeks, former Rangers defender Hutton reckons he shouldn’t make any alterations to his game and that the goals will come.

Pundits defend Kim Min-su amid dip in form

Speaking alongside Stewart on the Scottish Football Social Club podcast, Hutton explained: “You need to be willing to play forward and maybe lose the ball and it might not come off of you. How many times have we watched games and seen wingers that get taken off because they're not affecting the game? At least he’s (Min-su) trying to make something happen. I believe he's got what it takes to be a top player for Rangers.”

When host Darrell Currie noted Min-su’s error at Tynecastle which led to a Hearts goal, the former full back responded: “For players that play in these conditions, high up, you want them to play with a certain amount of freedom and go and affect games. And to do that, you need to take chances.”

Kim has time while Rangers in a good place

Sunday afternoon’s Premier Sports Cup victory over Aberdeen made it nine wins in 11 for the Light Blues. Fellow pundit Stewart believes that as long as the team is performing well, Min-su can take as long as he needs to get to his best. He added: “I'm totally with Hutts (Hutton), you look at him and you think to yourself, ‘he looks like he's about to do something’.

“Obviously at some point, that needs to then translate into actually doing something. Now, okay, he's not scoring, he's not creating assists, but he still works his backside off as well, so there's a base there to build from but clearly at some point that does need to translate into actual goals and assists but the overall make-up of the Rangers team, it can take as long as it wants.”
