Summer fun for families

MP Gregg McClymont got to see first hand the work being carried out by hardworking volunteers during a visit to Cumbernauld Central Playscheme.

The playscheme operates out of the Link Centre during school holidays and keeps kids entertained with fun games and activities.

The group, based at the Link Centre, is largely dependent on Children in Need funding but also receives a grant from North Lanarkshire Council and asks parents for a small contribution.

Mr McClymont also offered his support for the group’s application to the Big Lottery grants scheme as it explores new funding sources.

Chairwoman Jule Alkers thanked Gregg for coming along to the group.

She said: “I’d like to thank Gregg for coming along and meeting our helpers. We have no paid staff and everything is run by volunteers so his support really means a lot to us.”

Gregg added: “I was impressed by the level of dedication shown by Julie and her small army of volunteers. Their commitment is a real boost for working parents over the school holidays and gives children the chance to make the most of their summer.
