Red ribbon flags were also flown outside prominent buildings including North and South Lanarkshire Council headquarters, the University of the West of Scotland, Airdrie Town Hall, Ravenscraig Sports Complex and two campuses of New College Lanarkshire.

The events were held to mark World AIDS Day on December 1.

Kerri Todd, NHS Lanarkshire assistant health promotion manager from the Blood Borne Virus (BBV) and sexual health promotion team said: “Stigma and discrimination is still very prevalent within Scotland and World AIDS Day gives us the opportunity to challenge this.

“It also gives us the opportunity to reflect on what actions we can take, not only on World AIDS Day, but all year round to think about HIV and how to prevent its transmission.”
