Telly stars from Kirkhill

A PRIMARY school in East Renfrewshire was visited by the BBC recently.

Kirkhill primary school in Newton Mearns welcomed a crew from the Beeb’s youth news programme, Newsround, for a special feature on the Six Nations rugby tournament.

Kirkhill was chosen as the school has an after-school rugby group.

Eight pupils were filmed playing rugby in the school hall and were also interviewed.

The youngsters answered questions on who their favourite players was, which side they most wanted Scotland to beat and who they wanted to win the tournament.

Councillor Elaine Green, convener of education and equalities, said: “We were delighted to have the BBC Newsround crew at Kirkhill primary school and show off to the nation how knowledgeable and enthusiastic our children are about sport.

“The eight pupils involved in the filming were a real credit to their school and to East Renfrewshire and it was wonderful to see their skills showcased on national television.”
