Tenants no longer have right to buy

Glasgow southside MSP Nicola Sturgeon believes that the decision will ensure “people can access social housing when they need it 
most”.

The SNP government aims to create 30,000 new, affordable homes while in power, but 40,000 people are currently on waiting lists for social housing.

Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, said: “We welcome the news that this outdated policy — which for a long time has had no place in Scotland’s housing landscape — is to be 
scrapped.

“Around half a million public sector homes have been sold off in Scotland since the policy was implemented.”

Meanwhile Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh has been replaced in his shadow finance position following a reshuffle of Johann Lamont’s cabinet.

The move sees Mr Macintosh being replaced by former leader Iain Gray, who makes a return to frontline poitics.

Mr Macintosh told The Extra: “I am disappointed to not have the opportunity to finish the work my team and I have been doing but I am delighted that Iain Gray is returning to frontline Scottish politics.

“When Johann and I stood against one another for the leadership we both committed to building a united Labour team and I will continue to give her and the new shadow cabinet my full 
support.”
