Local charities and community groups are being urged to register for a new scheme which will enable them to receive donations of unsold food from Tesco.

As part of Tesco’s ongoing pledge to cut food waste, an innovative app will alert local groups or charities to surplus unsold food items available at the end of each day.

The unsold food, which is simply surplus to requirements and still within it’s use by and sell by date, is free and includes fresh produce, such as fruit, vegetables and bakery products. Chilled products like meat, dairy and ready meals are also offered.

Milngavie Tesco has already donated food to the Fraser Centre for elderly people, which allows that venue to be a food distribution centre every Wednesday. To access the scheme, register at www.fareshare.org.uk/fareshare-foodcloud.
