Theft really takes the biscuit!

British Gas marketing officer Michael Paterson noticed that the snacks were missing after a security inspection on his baggage at Accra airport when he realised the seals on his suitcase had been broken.

He had purchased the chocolate treats, made by Tunnock’s, as a present for his host family during the trip to a Ghanian orphanage.

Football kits Mr Paterson had brought with him were also left untouched by the thieves.

Mr Paterson, who lives in Partick, added: “I couldn’t believe it. I searched high and low but traced them going missing to what happened at the airport.

“I thought it had been some security check on my cases and when I saw the valuable stuff was still there I was happy to go on my way.

“I’d been out in Ghana before and I knew they liked Scottish things and I thought the caramel wafers would go down a treat.

“Unfortunately, whoever was in my suitcases decided to help themselves.”

Uddingston-based Tunnock’s have since offered Mr Paterson free biscuits on behalf of the company.

Mr Paterson will be helping the Alliance for Youth Development charity in Ghana, which runs an orphanage and free school, HIV awareness scheme and a sports programme for local children.
