There will be fun for all the family at the Campsie Agricultural Show

From pop performances to pig racing, this year’s fun-packed Campsie Show is sure to be bigger and better than ever before.

The popular annual event - organised by Campsie, Strathblane and Baldernock Agricultural Society - is being held on Saturday, June 6, at

Bogton Farm, Torrance, by kind permission of land owners Jack Brewster and Caledonian Properties.

Traditional rural attractions will include a show of cattle, sheep and heavy and light horses and show jumping.

It will all start with a parade from Torrance, led by the Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band, with the ‘Grand Parade of Livestock’ held later in the day.

And newly-elected East Dunbartonshire MP John Nicolson will be making one of his first public appearances to crown the Torrance Gala Queen.

There will be the usual wide variety of trade stands and children’s entertainment, alongside a large marquee showcasing a variety of crafters displaying their produce and products.

The always-popular dog show is expected to attract a host of entries for both the best in breed and novelty classes - register in the secretary’s tent from 12.30pm onwards.

Or, if food and crafts are more your thing, then there will be a number of competitions to enter in the Homecraft tent.

There will also be a number of ‘firsts’ at this year’s show - including a completely new marquee added to contend with rainy days.

An organiser explained: “Due to adverse weather conditions over the past few years the committee felt a change was needed, so we have organised an new entertainment marquee.

“There will be performances by the Jimmy Blair Accordion Orchestra, local performer Katee Kross, a musical theatre performance by Backstage Theatre, a dancing display by the Bonar School of Dance, gardening displays by Oakwood Garden Centre, a Killearn sheep shearing demonstration and a fashion show by Driftwood Fashion of Milngavie.

“These will take place on stage within the entertainment marquee throughout the afternoon. No matter what the weather there will be something for everyone.”

There will also be some new additons this year in the main ring, with a display from the Quack Commandos - a sheepdog and duck herding display with lots of audience participation.

Meanwhile, pig racing will be making its a debut at this year’s show. Watch the pigs race along the track and try to pick the winner.

Also new for 2015 are a company called Shed Therapy, who will be giving displays of woodturning and making items using sustainable wood.

Visitors to the show will also get to have a go at making a wide veriety of environmentally-friendly items.

And kids of all ages will also be certain to enjoy the grand parade of vintage vehicles.
