Tickets available for First World War commemorations

A Drumhead service is conducted at Edinburgh's Armed Forces Day.

The council has been allocated tickets for the event, taking place at Edinburgh Castle on August 10, and will be providing free transport to and from the capital for the service.

A council representative explained: “It is one of a number of commemorative events to give the country the opportunity to reflect on the impact the First World War had on the country, as well as enabling people to recognise Scotland’s contribution to the war and its legacy.

“This multi-faith service, known as a Drumhead Service, will re-enact the type of military service that would have taken place 100 years ago, and is familiar to generations of servicemen and women.”

The Scottish Government has allocated more than 5,000 tickets to councils, and those guests will join 3,000 members of the armed forces and ex-servicemen and women.

Anyone interested in attending can apply to the ERC for tickets by calling 577 3107/3108/3143 — tickets will be allocated to reflect a cross section of the community.

Meanwhile, tickets for Glasgow’s First World War and Commonwealth centenary commemoration were made available this week, with a dedicated hotline set up for the George Square event.

Householders can apply for a maximum of four tickets for the August 4 event, and lines will close when all of the 4,000 tickets have been allocated.
