Time to take two at the delayed Lenzie gala day

Undeterred by having to call off the Lenzie Gala in June due to very high winds, the Community Council has arranged a re-run on Saturday, August 15.

The entertainment is the same as before as fortunately everyone was able to make the new date, with the addition of the Lenzie Woodhead Gymnastics Club at the Gala for the first time ever.

Also, there will be loads of brand new stallholders so there will be plenty to browse and buy.

Local charities will be there as usual hoping for the consistently generous support they receive on the day.

As everyone has come to expect, the Marie Curie fundraising team will be manning the tea tent, with their delicious home baking.

There will also be some very special raffle prizes - provided and organised by Coda Estates in conjunction with local businesses in support of the Schiehallion Unit at The Sick Children’s Hospital - the LCC website and Facebook page have details which will tempt just about everyone to buy tickets.

A community council spokesperson said: “In addition to Coda Estates, we would like to thank other local businesses which have offered financial or in-kind assistance to the gala.

“As well as a contribution from the East Dunbartonshire Community Grant fund, the gala has received financial support from Fleming Builders, Miller Beckett & Jackson Solicitors, Arnold Clark, Cedar Nursery and Taylor Wimpey Builders.

“In addition, Memory Lane Flowers are donating two bouquets for the Gala queen, one for her school crowning (long since gone) and a second for the big day itself.

“Andrew Meek from the Millersneuk Dental Practice will be the Gala Queen’s chauffeur for the event in his 101 year old vintage car and her hair will be done by Avril Haffron Hair Designers.”

And there’s no chance of the whole day being called off again, with plans in place for all weathers.

Organiser Liz Ibbotson explained: “This time we have a plan B and the Gala will be held in the Lenzie Public Hall if it is impossible to hold it on the rugby pitches as usual. It may not be ideal as we would still be bringing what is essentially an outdoor event indoors but - come what may - the Lenzie Gala will go ahead”
