The Tolbooth Committee has now also come under fire from all three of Lanark’s South Lanarkshire councillors, one of them claiming the body has “an attitude problem” in rejecting outside groups wishing to hire the town centre venue.

However, the chairman of the Trust overseeing the committee, Leonard Gray, tried to dampen down the storm of criticism, claiming that it was over-the-top and “probably largely down to a simple clash of personalities”.

He also challenged others to take over the totally unpaid, time-consuming task of administering the building.
