Tory candidate questions Murphy

Scottish Conservative candidate David Montgomery has hit out at Jim Murphy following confirmation that the Scottish Labour leader will stand for Holyrood as well as Westminster.

Speaking after Tuesday’s hustings event held by Newton Mearns Community Council, the Tory candidate for East Renfrewshire said: “One thing has become clear during this campaign: East Renfrewshire has had enough of being taken for granted by Labour.

“Jim Murphy has made it clear that he wants to be first minister of Scotland in a year, but insists he will serve a full term as MP for East Renfrewshire.

“How can he represent two constituencies, lead the Labour Party and be first minister? The desperation of Labour is taking priority over what is important in this election: the people of East Renfrewshire.

“In the last week of the campaign, I am asking the people of East Ren to vote for the candidate they want to represent them at Westminster, not who they think will keep someone else out.”

The Conservative campaign team will be canvassing Clarkston, Eaglesham, Newton Mearns, Netherlee and Giffnock this weekend before heading to Neilston Agricultural Show.
