The Scottish Government has confirmed a new barrier is to be installed between St John the Baptist Primary in Uddingston and the M74.

Uddingston and Bellshill MSP Richard Lyle submitted a parliamentary question asking the government’s position given previously reported fears about the school’s proximity to the motorway.

Cabinet Secretary Keith Brown said: “The improvements will provide four traffic lanes on the M74 at this location, with the new carriageway located approximately 20m away from the edge of the school playground.

“Scottish Roads Partnership, the contractor, has confirmed that a permanent vehicle restraint barrier will be installed between the carriageway and the school.”
