The project will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface 1km of carriageway south of Cambwell Junction.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, the A702 will be closed between Cambwell Junction and Biggar from 7.30pm-6.30am on the nights of November 3 and 4.

A diversion route will be signposted between Melbourne Crossroads and the A702 north of Biggar, via the A72 and B7016. This diversion will add an estimated 15 miles and 28 minutes to affected journeys.

These resurfacing works are a part of a road safety improvement package, which will continue in December with the upgrade of signage and roadside safety barriers.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help address the defects on this section of the A702, improving safety and ride quality for motorists.

“We thank road users and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out this project. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
