Tree in the park for OLM youngsters

The school’s eco group spent three hours planting 400 trees — dog rose, beech and hawthorn — provided by Woodland Trust Scotland.

The volunteers battled wind and rain to spruce up the tree circle in a field by Rouken Glen’s star attraction waterfall.

Activity park ranger Kate Williamson, who organised the event, said that the work would “establish a lovely native hedge around the tree circle to make it stand out as more of a feature”.

Kate and the OLM youngsters were helped by the Druids of Caledon, who regularly hold their equinox ceremonies at the tree circle, as well as East Renfrewshire’s environment convener, Vincent Waters.

Councillor Waters commented: “It was great to see the pupils from Our Lady of the Missions so full of enthusiasm and getting stuck in despite the heavy rain.

“It will have been a memorable and exciting eevent for the planters, who will have the pleasure of revisiting the site in the years ahead to see their saplings grow into tall trees, to enhance the beauty of this spectacular park.”
