To mark this event, the committee decided it would be fitting to plant a tree.

After consultation with East Renfrewshire Council, a spot on the cycle route near the junction of Harvie Avenue and Crookfur Road was chosen.

However, this plan had to be abandoned when the site was taken over for construction work on the drainage from the Maidenhill housing development.

Most of the Society’s monthly meetings are held in the Albertslund Hall in Westacres Road. It was decided that the rowan tree (Sorbus Aucuparia) should be planted outside the hall.

On Tuesday, December 11, committee members Adrian Egglestone, Cynthia Martin, Charles Murray, Elspeth Simpson and Peter Watson had a small ceremony which saw the tree firmly planted and watered.

Society members can monitor its progress as they come to meetings in the hall.

It will take 20 years to grow into a mature tree.
