Twelve years with no progress on Law Hospital site

It seems the vast site is further away than ever from being redeveloped as a large, private housing estate TWELVE years after the hospital closed down.

In the immediate aftermath of the 2001 hospital closure, hopes were high that the area would be redeveloped as virtually a whole new, affluent `village’ with around 700 homes being built on the vast site.

An agreement was drawn up to sell the site to a consortium but that was hit by the slump.

Now, following a Gazette inquiry at the NHS Lanarkshire annual general meeting, it seems even that agreement has fallen through and the whole Law redevelopment plan is back to square one.

We were issued with a statement after the meeting which indicates that a `rebirth’ of the site is nowhere in sight, NHS Lanarkshire admitting that developers are hardly beating a path to Law; the government’s Scottish Futures Trust was now involved in trying to market the site.

A spokeswoman for NHS Lanarkshire said: “The former Law Hospital site is still held for sale by NHS Lanarkshire but, in the current economic climate, interest in a site of this size is very limited.
