Under starter’s orders for Men’s 10k Festival

The race is on for fathers, sons, brothers, uncles and friends to sign up for one of the friendliest and most fun fitness events in Glasgow.

The Men’s 10k Festival takes place in Glasgow on Father’s Day Weekend – Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15 - and online registration closes next Friday (June 6).

That means men of the West and beyond have just a few days left to ensure they secure their place at the unique event - one of the most popular and successful in the UK and the only one of its kind in Scotland.

This year the event is bigger and better than ever - thanks to organisers at Men’s Health Forum Scotland - with the established 10k run forming the centrepiece of the inaugural Men’s 10k Festival, including food, fitness and more.

As well as the established Men’s 10k on Sunday 15th, there is a 1k Rascal Run for boys and girls and on Saturday 14th, an all-new Men’s 5k and a Family 3k for kids.

Online registration for all those events also closes next Friday so there’s no time to lose.

Des Clarke, comedian and Capital FM DJ, said: “Growing up in the south side of Glasgow I’m used to running around Bellahouston Park - mainly being chased right enough!

“Seriously, I’m proud to be part of the Men’s Health Festival this year. Especially as I’ll be helping raise money for the Brick By Brick Appeal, building a new Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.

“It’s a really fantastic cause and well worth getting my running shoes on for.”

The Men’s 10k Festival takes place on Father’s Day weekend – June 14-15 – at Bellahouston Park and will include:

Saturday, June 14th: Family 3k (open to boys and girls aged up to 15) Men’s 5k – open to men aged 11 and over

Sunday, June 15th: Rascal Run in Association with Yorkhill Children’s Charity (1k – open to boys and girls up to 15) Men’s 10k – open to men aged 15 and over.

There will also be an EXPO village with loads of fun for all the family, as well as great healthy and tasty festival food.

Event Manager Sarah McMillan said: “Time is running out if you want to take part in this year’s Men’s 10k Festival, with online registration closing at midnight on Friday, June 6.

“We’ve been delighted with the wonderful response so far and there is still time for you to get involved - but you have to move quickly.

“And remember, before you do the Men’s 5k or Men’s 10k (or both!), you can get the kids signed up for the Family 3k or Rascal Run.

“I hope as many men and families as possible take part in this inspirational event. There’s a wonderful feeling of camaraderie from fellow runners and from supporters who line the route - don’t miss out on a potentially life-changing experience.”

Anyone who gives their mobile number when they register will receive a results text within a couple of minutes of completing the 10k, with results online immediately afterwards.

And all Men’s 5k/10k finishers will receive a goody bag with a medal, banana, water and the chance of some fab spot prizes!

Glasgow MSP Bob Doris recently lodged a motion at the Scottish Parliament praising the Men’s 10k, which has attracted cross-party support.

The Men’s 10k is organised by MHFS, a small charity which relies on the support of sponsors - such as Yorkhill Children’s Charity and the ‘see me’ campaign - and funding applications to continue year on year.
