Vandals continue reign of fire in Northern Corridor

In recent weeks bins and a wooden bridge have been targeted by the thugs in the Kelvin Drive area of Moodiesburn.

The latest victims of the spate of attacks have been a bench in Bedlay Cemetary and a 70-year-old pigeon loft situated nearby nearby, on the way to the old railway line.

It happened at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, March 30.

Strathkelvin councillor John McLaren is now worried the thugs will damage the miners statue in the cemetery next.

The ex-fireman said: “It’s absolutely despicable and is a sacrilege what they are doing. It is only a matter of time before they attack the miners statue.”

Councillor McLaren is now calling on the people of Moodiesburn to be vigilant and reckons “someone must know who these people are.”

He added: “These people need to be caught. They will be known by some people in the community and I’m asking for them to come forward to stop this from getting any worse. Report them and let’s get this stopped.”

A police spokeswomen said: “We are aware of the pigeon lofts fires and are treating it as wilful fire raising. A man in his garden reported it to the emergency service.

“We would urge anyone who sees people hanging around in the area to phone us so we can engage with potential trouble makers and move them on before something more serious happens. If anybody has any information they can call us on 101.”
