Police have released dramatic CCTV footage of a thug who torched a Bishopbriggs mosque in a suspected 'hate crime' late last year.

Emergency services were called out around 2.20am on Tuesday, November 17 after reports of a fire at the Bishopbriggs Cultural Centre in Auchinairn Road.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage were caused to the centre, also known as Al-Farooq and after a joint investigation between Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the blaze was treated as wilful.

Police have described the man as around 5ft10 and wearing a blue tracksuit, a hat with an illuminous band at the back, and dark shoes.

Detective Constable Stephen Cooke from Kirkintilloch CID said: “This was a deliberate and dangerous act which has caused extensive damage to the centre.

“I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images to contact police as he may hold information vital to our inquiry.

“Anyone with information about this incident can call police on 101 or alternatively you can contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given anonymously.”
