Views sought on Maidenhill master plan

Newton Mearns residents are invited to a community meeting to discuss plans for the Maidenhill/Malletsheugh area with East Renfrewshire Council’s planning team.

The council’s master plan for the area is a mixed use development with a capacity for over 1,000 new homes.

The Maidenhill site was also earmarked for a facility for the Muslim community earlier this year, following the rejection of controversial proposals to site a religious building next to Eastwood High.

The event will be held 2-7pm on Thursday, July 24, in Ivy India (formerly the Malletsheugh Inn).

A council spokesman said: “Members of the public will be able to put questions to members of the council’s planning team and to view the emerging master plan, give their opinions and add local knowledge to the development process.”

Responding on Twitter, Extra reader @squarepyjamas commented: “I can hear the work already and it’s only going to get closer. Goodbye fields and animals - sad.”
