Walk this way for carers

More than 100 people are expected to turn out for this year's 13-mile Carers Link walk to help raise £10,000 for the charity.

The Walk with Us Challenge on Saturday, April 23 will see participants from across the district take up the challenge of walking across East Dunbartonshire in support of carers throughout Twechar, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Lennoxtown.

People already signed up have various reasons for doing the walk – from challenging themselves to walk 13 miles to spending time with their family, but all want to support carers by raising as much money as possible

Carers in this context are those that provide regular help and support to a partner, relative or friend who cannot manage without their support.

One person in eight is a carer, and three people in five will be a carer at some point in their lifetime. This means that it is very likely that you, or someone you know well, is, will have been, or will be a carer. Carers Link provides information, advocacy, and one-to-one support for carers as well as courses and groups.

There are two walks organised in Kirkintilloch. The first is about 13 miles and starts in Milngavie, walking via Strathblane, Lennoxtown and Milton of Campsie. As many people as possible are being encouraged to come along and ‘Walk with Us’.

There is also a shorter, family friendly, walk of about 3.5 miles starting at Bishopbriggs for people to join as well. Anyone doing this walk will have the chance to complete our Treasure Trail and be in with the chance of winning a small prize.

As well as people to walk and raise funds for the organisation, the group need volunteers to help welcome walkers, cheer them on their way and make sure that no-one gets lost.

If you think this could be you, and want to find out more, you can call Alister on 0141 955 2131, email [email protected], or go to carerslink.org.uk/walk-with-us, where you can also register to take part.

Fingers crossed the weather will be good for the day, which is always a fun way to spend an enjoyable Saturday.
