Walkabouts giving residents chance to point out problems

Motherwell residents have been helping North Lanarkshire Council officers identify what needs fixed in their area.

Merry Street, Doonside Tower, Lodge Tower and Burnside Tower tenants participated in estate walkabouts with housing staff and technical officers last Wednesday (April 6).

They looked at the likes of general maintenance, garden improvements, fixing drainage pipes and cleansing issues.

Assistant operations manager Jamie Pettigrew said: “Our estate walkabouts give tenants and residents the opportunity to point out things which may require action, repair or improvement.

“They are a practical way for tenants to raise issues which may be concerning them and improve communication and relationships with council staff.”

Julie Dallas, who has lived in Merry Street for four years, added: “This is really worthwhile and means we can tell the council directly what could be done to help improve around our block.

“The staff are really helpful and I would encourage more people to take part and make a difference in Motherwell.”

The next walkabout is at Glassford Tower today (Wednesday) at 10am.
