Wardens can’t bring Cumbernauld danger dog to heel

The role of council dog wardens has been called into question amidst claims that no attempt is being made to curb a dog which inflicted a vicious bite on a passer-by.

Westfield mum-of-three Aileen Mitchell had to attend an accident and emergency clinic in July after being bitten in an unprovoked attack by an Alsatian.

The dog is still at large and off its leash in the Corrie View area and Aileen’s request that a dog warden address the issue has gone unheeded, after staff on patrol refused to approach the animal’s owner.

Aileen (39) is still at a loss to explain why no action has been taken.

She said: “I was advised to contact the dog warden by the police, but the dog wardens say it is a police matter as the dog has bitten.”

A council spokeswoman insisted that the wardens were not falling short of their duties as responsibility for this matter lay elsewhere.
