Waterfoot planning meeting crowded out

FEARFUL Waterfoot residents flooded to a public exhibition hosted by developers planning to build on green belt land.

Gladman Developments hosted the event to show locals their plans for a new residential development on land adjacent to Glasgow Road.

Residents were invited to the exhibitionto give their opinions on a proposed development in advance of a planning application being lodged with East Refrewshire council.

West of Scotland MSP Jackson Carlaw told The Extra: “The public exhibition was extremely well attended by Waterfoot residents, whose numbers were testament to their collective disapproval for this blatant land grab.

“Response from residents has been resoundingly opposed to this unsolicited and unwarranted plan.

“Waterfoot residents are rightly furious about this proposal, especially as it was not part of the Local Development Plan and contradicts the LDP’s emphasis on the appeal of East Renfrewshire’s green spaces.

A planning application could come in the next few months — meanwhile, a proposal of application notice has already been submitted.

An ERC council spokeswoman said: “The council cannot decline to accept either a PAN or indeed a planning application from any individual or group.

“It is people’s right to submit planning applications and to receive a decision from the council. This process is required by legislation.”
