Weather watchers told to expect cold snap

Things are calming down on the weather front after East Dunbartonshire took a battering from high winds today (Thursday), but it will turn much colder in coming days.

Gusts of up to 70mph caused difficult driving conditions and pedestrians and motorists had to dodge full wheelie binsin the morning, then empty ones after council uplifts had been carried out.

Electricity was off in the Wester Cleddens area of Bishopbriggs, near the high school, on Thursday around lunchtime.

First Glasgow also reported delays on some services between Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch.

Elsewhere, Bath Street in Glasgow was closed due to a dangerous building.

Winds are expected to ease into this evening, but forecasters are warning that an extremely cold front is moving in, with very low temperatures into the weekend.
