Motorists are being warned to expect delays around the Raith interchange this weekend.

The Bellshill side of the roundabout (A725) will be in contraflow, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction from 8pm today (Friday) until 6am on Monday.

This is to allow major works to complete the construction of the last remaining bridge over the new underpass at Raith.

There will be no access to Strathclyde Park or the M74 southbound at Raith (junction 5). Traffic for Strathclyde Park should follow the signed diversion to the Motherwell entrance via junction 6.

In addition, access to Hamilton, Bothwell and the M74 north and southbound will be restricted, with signed diversions in place.

Graeme Reid, project manager for the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project, said: “These works have been scheduled to take place over the weekend to avoid disruption to commuters during the morning and evening peaks.

“While we’re doing everything we can to minimise the disruption, delays will be inevitable, so we’re asking motorists to check the Transport Scotland and Traffic Scotland websites for updates, to plan their journeys in advance and to look at taking an alternative route if possible.”
