Weekend delays on Forth Road Bridge as cable work continues

Motorists are warned to expect delays at the Forth Road Bridge on Saturday and Sunday morning while preparatory work for an inspection of the main cable continues.

Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in both directions from 1.00 to 9.30 a.m. on Saturday morning and from 1.00 to 10.30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Queues are expected to build up after 8.30 a.m. on Saturday and 9.30 on Sunday but will gradually clear once restrictions are lifted.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to cross the bridge using the west footpath/cycleway.

These works are highly weather dependent - if high winds, heavy rain or other circumstances result in cancellation they will be rescheduled for the next available weekend.

Meamwhile, a busy programme of road repairs on the approaches to the bridge begin on the night of June 29 and conclude on the night of Thursday, July 23.

Repairs to potholes and other defects will be carried out at Echline Junction and Scotstoun Junction south of the bridge, and on the M90 north of the Forth Road Bridge.

All of these works will be carried out overnight between 8.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. and are not expected to cause significant disruption to traffic.

Work will be suspended during the weekends of T in the Park and The Open at St Andrews.

Under the terms of the Forth Bridges Operating Contract, Amey is responsible for the approach roads on both sides of the Forth from M9 Junction 1A at Kirkliston to M90 Junction 3 at Halbeath, as well as the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing when it opens.
