Welfare summit will look at controversial changes to benefits

A welfare summit is being held on Friday (April 4) by MP Gregg McClymont for residents worried about the Government’s controversial changes to the welfare system, including the bedroom tax.

Mr McClymont, who represents Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East, will be joined by representatives from Kirkintilloch Jobcentre Plus, East Dunbartonshire Council, Hillhead Housing Association, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Services and Kirkintilloch Citizens Advice Bureau.

The MP said that the ‘bedroom tax’ is the most prominent concern.

He added: “It’s clear just from my mailbag that people in Kirkintilloch are not only struggling already, but are worried about how upcoming changes will affect them.”

“I hope that people who come along to the surgery will come away with a better idea of how their circumstances may change and what measures are in place to help them.

The drop-in event takes place in Kirkintilloch Miners Welfare from 10.30am-12pm.
