Wet dog helps Carluke photographer Dave Taylor to success

CARLUKE’S Dave Taylor owes his triumph in a national newspaper photography competition to an elderly man and his pet Jack Russell, who stood in the rain and freezing cold at a junior football match!

The image of man and dog, which Dave snapped at the 2011 Scottish Junior Cup semi-final between Bo’ness and Auchinleck Talbot, is one of 10 winning entries being displayed in the More Than A Game exhibition at Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery.

Dave (37) said: “I think what appealed to the judges was the fact that my photograph had a charm about it which you don’t get very much in the commercialised world of modern football.

“The image of this guy standing with his dog in horrible weather on the terraces perfectly demonstrates football at grassroots level, which was the required theme for competition entries.

“You don’t see that many dogs sitting in the stands at senior football matches these days!”
